Salary and demand

CPA designation means bigger bucks

Take the time to earn your CPA license and you could earn lots more money, according to a new salary survey.

The survey from the Institute of Management Accountants found that professionals with a CPA license or the Certified Management Accountants (CMA) designation earn substantially more than those without.

The average total compensation in 2010 for both is $135,695 — $27,000 more than those without certification.

More good news – survey respondents in their 40s and 50s reported increased salaries and compensation of $14,275 over those not certified.

And the good news just keeps coming! The professionals with both a CPA and a CMA designation had an even greater salary differential, averaging $35,700 higher than those without any designations.
