In a long-awaited decision, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit Sept. 8 declared that the Anti-Injunction Act stripped it of jurisdiction to hear a challenge to the constitutionality of a key provision of the law overhauling the nation's health care system.

A coalition of Tea Party and constitutional rights activists are one step closer to their goal of preserving Ohioan’s right to choose their own health care. Ohioans for Healthcare Freedom submitted more than 546,000 signatures to the Ohio Secretary of State’s office in an attempt to block a requirement in the national health care law that would require everyone to purchase health insurance.

The Food and Drug Administration is taking the first steps toward regulating the rapidly expanding field of medical applications, or apps, for smart phones and other handheld devices. With the rise of the iPhone, Android and other mobile devices has come a flood of applications designed to help people stay healthy. Industry analysts estimate there are already more than 17,000 medical applications available, ranging from calorie counters to programs that let doctors view medical scans on their phones.

Nursing homes will see a double-digit drop in their Medicare payments next year. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on July 29 finalized an 11.1% cut in payments to nursing homes. CMS proposed the cut in April, saying Medicare made unexpected extra payments under a new classification system and that a cut is needed in order to recapture that money.
