Want to play FETCH!?

FETCH! ®: Financial Education Teaches Children Healthy Habits®. In response to requests from teachers and OSCPA members to offer a program that addresses financial literacy basics such as budgeting, saving and spending, The Ohio CPA Foundation created and implemented FETCH! statewide in 2010. Ohio CPAs are heading back to the classroom on Nov. 9, 2011 to again play FETCH! with 5th and 6th grade students throughout the state.

About FETCH!

FETCH! teaches children about budgeting, saving and spending through a fun and interactive board game. Students form competitive teams for an adventure through a dog park filled with financial risks and rewards. Team members must work together to purchase items for their pooch and save as much money as possible. Targeted to 5th and 6th grades, FETCH! requires students to make financial decisions, use their math skills, budget for unexpected expenses, and plan ahead to avoid fines imposed by the Dog Catcher. Through teamwork, strategy and competition, FETCH! teaches children important financial concepts that are the foundation of a healthy financial future. On the day of the event, the program requires approximately two hours from start to finish in an elementary classroom.

Get involved!

Classroom participation

OSCPA coordinates classroom participation for FETCH! with schools throughout Ohio. Volunteer opportunities are available at schools that have registered for the elementary program through OSCPA. If you are interested in visiting a school that has not registered for the program, let OSCPA help you introduce FETCH! to a school in your community. You may also print this brochure to share with a teacher or principal at the school you would like to visit. Contact Erin Lasch at 800.686.2727, ext. 371 for assistance.

FETCH! 2010

The first annual FETCH! program took place in November 2010. Over 1,200 OSCPA members and volunteers presented FETCH! in 424 classrooms throughout Ohio. Thank you to everyone who helped make FETCH! a success! Check out this recap video.

More CPAs in the Classroom volunteer opportunities

If you’d also like to work with high school students, please consider volunteering to teach the Junior Achievement Personal Finance program this fall. There are plenty of opportunities for CPAs to be leaders in student financial literacy. We hope you’ll consider volunteering for both the elementary and high school programs.
