Building a better future

In the classroom. In your community. The Ohio CPA Foundation works with CPAs across Ohio to drive awareness of CPA careers with students from elementary school through college, and build more fiscally healthy communities through financial education.

The foundation is the 501 (c)(3) charitable affiliate of The Ohio Society of CPAs and exists on support from CPAs, volunteers and donors who make it possible for the Foundation to build a better future for the next generation of CPAs and Ohioans.

ACAP-Ohio

The Accounting Careers Awareness Program (ACAP-Ohio) is an innovative career development program designed specifically for minority high school students. During the week-long campus residency program, a select group of students will have the opportunity to explore careers in accounting and business.

CPAs in the Classroom

Now, there are even more opportunities for you to get involved and make a positive difference in the lives of students in your community!

That’s why The Ohio CPA Foundation is launching CPAs in the Classroom which includes two new financial literacy programs – FETCH! for elementary students and Junior Achievement (JA) Personal Finance for high school students.

FETCH!

FETCH! ®: Financial Education Teaches Children Healthy Habits®. In response to requests from teachers and OSCPA members to offer a program that addresses financial literacy basics such as budgeting, saving and spending, The Ohio CPA Foundation created and implemented FETCH! statewide in 2010. Ohio CPAs are heading back to the classroom on Nov. 9, 2011 to again play FETCH! with 5th and 6th grade students throughout the state.

Student Ambassador Program

Student Ambassadors create windows of opportunity for CPAs to talk to students. They also leverage the power and influence of peer-to-peer interaction among students who are majoring in accounting and those who aren’t. This program is making significant strides in correcting misconceptions and is capturing the minds of students about what the future can hold if they become a CPA.

College Scholarship Program

Each year, The Ohio Society of CPAs offers a number of college scholarships through its statewide college scholarship program. Students will be competing for one of 11 $1,000 regional scholarships. The $1,000 scholarship recipient from each region will be selected based academic achievement as well as the quality of his or her cover letter and resume. The regional recipients will then be invited to participate in Scholarship Day which will be hosted at The Ohio Society of CPAs in April.

ASPIRE!

A new initiative of The Ohio CPA Foundation, ASPIRE! Diversity in Accounting program, is designed specifically for minority students attending community colleges and two-year institutions who are interested in careers in accounting and business. Students meet local CPAs, accounting professionals and faculty to learn about career opportunities and what it takes to become a CPA. Students also find out how their associates degree can be the springboard to the next level of their education.
